Hotels release rooms all year. Good flights, in the seats you want, do not. Here is the order we build every trip in.
Almost every trip that goes wrong on paper goes wrong in the same place: someone booked the hotel first, fell in love with it, and then discovered the only flight that fits arrives at 3am on the day before check-in.
Air inventory is finite in a way hotel inventory is not
A resort can hold back rooms, release them late, or move you between categories. An aircraft has a fixed number of seats in each fare bucket, and once the cheap buckets are gone they do not come back. On popular sectors during school holidays, the difference between booking in January and booking in April can be substantial.
The order we work in
We settle the international legs first, then the internal flights or trains, then the hotels, then the ground transport and experiences. Every step after the first is easier to move than the one before it.
What this means for you
When you send us dates, we will usually come back about the air routing before we say anything about hotels. That is not us avoiding the fun part — it is the constraint that shapes everything else. Once the flights are held, the rest of the itinerary can be rearranged freely.
The one exception
Trips built around a specific property — an overwater villa in a small Maldivian resort, a particular tented camp in the Mara during migration, a heritage haveli with nine rooms. There, the room is scarcer than the seat, and we reverse the order.
