Why visa applications get refused

Almost always paperwork, almost never eligibility. What consulates are actually looking for.

A refusal feels personal. In our experience it very rarely is. The overwhelming majority of rejections we see come down to an application that failed to answer the two questions every consulate is asking.

Question one: will you come back?

Consulates assess ties to home — employment, business, property, family, a pattern of previous travel that ended in returning. A sparse application from a first-time traveller with no travel history is not disqualifying, but it needs to be supported properly rather than left thin.

Question two: can you afford this trip?

Bank statements need to show a settled balance, not a large deposit that landed the week before. A sudden credit shortly before applying reads as borrowed funds and is one of the most common reasons for refusal.

The avoidable mistakes

Itineraries that do not match the hotel bookings. Insurance below the required medical limit. A cover letter that says nothing. Photographs to the wrong specification. Gaps between the dates on the form and the dates on the tickets. Every one of these is fixable before submission.

If you are refused

The refusal letter usually cites a clause. That clause tells you what to fix. Reapplying immediately with the same file is rarely useful; reapplying with the gap addressed often is. We will go through it with you either way.
